I just love blogs. Here's the deal though - it seems that everyones life is so together, fun and well together.... Even when things aren't going that well they still seem more together than me. There's regret when reading about young moms doing wonderful things with their children that I never did - too late now! There are beautiful homes that I long for when I can't seem to get my bum off the couch to put dishes in the dishwasher... There are cute quilts and crafts and projects that resemble the half done stash I've been meaning to complete for years.... How about the really busy people who still manage to post regularly and consequently have a lovely personal history... Oh wait that reminds me - genealogy.... I know, I know, you're saying, "Lanette - you have a lovely life" and its true. Is the discontent a tool of the adversary or a gift of the spirit? I guess it's how you use it. I'm choosing a gift to move me from wasting precious life moments toward filling my days with what really matters. May future posts hold pictures of lovely family vacations, finished projects and dare I say a "together", home!!

Time passes....

I never want to forget the little fingers full of mac and cheese that belonged to Holly and JD tonight at Panera. How JD did cheesy finger painting on Liz's grey sweater. How she said, "I guess I'll be washing this." She gets it! Babies find joy in the messy life - enjoy it with them!

I want to remember the way they say Poppy (that's Dave).

Life is joy and joy and joy - right in front of me every day.

An absolutely beautiful sky this morning with crisp air to breathe in on my early run. Though I'd love to stay in my cozy bed, so happy that I've chosen to run instead.

Every day is a gift - I'm going to open every moment fully aware.

We're all sick - well not all of us but enough to make it a Hopkins epidemic. It's no fun having sick babies but it's even worse when the mom and grandma are sick. I've lost my voice and can't tell where to find it. I actually feel just fine but can't make a sound, just a whisper. This is not good since my job is all about talking. I've rested today and have high hopes and faith that I'll speak tomorrow... if not - I have a white board and erasable marker and my Weight Watcher meetings will be great adventures in charades and mind reading.

I'm reminded that the song is true, "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Wouldn't it be terrible if we couldn't speak? We had stake conference today and I was surprised how disconnected I felt because I couldn't communicate. I'll try to remember when I'm having a bad day but still have my voice that life is good. For now - I'm thankful for this blog where I can still speak!

A good little blogger

I want to be a good little blogger. There are so many wonderful, creative people out there who post clever, inspiring entries. I don't care about being famous - I just don't want to embarrass myself or future generations. I do want to blog though so here are a few concerns: If I post about an outing with friends, other friends will feel bad that they weren't invited.
If I post about my kids they might be embarrassed and annoyed at me.
I seem to start lots of things and then stop - I guess this is human nature but it's frustrating!
There must be pictures and they should be decent.
etc. etc.

What do you think about these issues? Anyway I'm thinking as I write that the best blogs are when the writers personality comes shining through. I'll stop worrying about my blog being as fun as someone elses and just do my best to keep it up. I'll try to write about something other than Holly and JD now and then but they're just so darn adorable!! Proof in pictures

I know, no faces but it's nice to know the back of my hair doesn't look all that bad with the growing out highlights.

Please keep posting to your blog and I'll do the same....try, try again!

We went to the pumpkin patch. Holly and JD loved it. They saw the animals and the choo choo and the pumpkins - it was all so exciting.

Here they are last year. They've changed so much.

Not too much more hair this year.

Here is the before - with braces. The orthodontist showed him the before pictures of he teeth and he asked me, "Mom, how could you let me walk around like that?"

And the after - braces gone - teeth straight!! He's had a carmel apple and corn on the cob - life is good.

Time keeps slipping away...

The joy of twins! Grandpa decided to share his lemon popcycle - J.D. and Holly bring new meaning to the word sharing.

They are so much fun - the world is new and exciting.

Their personalities are shining through, it's so fun that they have a pal to grow up with! -
Being a grandmother is more fun than I could have imagined.

Summer 2010

What a fun summer we've had! In no particular order here's what happened:
Johnny turned 16, He survived his high adventure trip with white water rafting, rapelling, bouldering, zip lining etc. Johnny also worked with Dave setting up the new firm and was Liz's faithful assistant on trips to the zoo, park etc.

Holly and JD both learned to walk. We read lots of stories, sang songs, laughed, took walks, went swimming and played with toys.

Whenever JD and Holly come over they head straight for the piano and keyboard. They are also great dancers - JD bounces up and down - Holly wiggles side to side. The best thing that's happening this summer is that Holly and JD are moving just down the street from us!!! Oh Jim and Liz are coming too - we couldn't be more thrilled - it's this grandma's dream come true.

This summer has been so much fun - Fall promises to be full of wonderful things too - I really am enjoying the passage of time!

Uncle Johnny

When I was young I had Aunts and Uncles who were teenagers. They were so much fun. Holly and JD have Uncle Johnny. He is such a great uncle. When Holly and JD see him they squeal with delight.

He's patient and kind with them and is willing to play with them and keep them safe.

Johnny has a lot of fun too. Since he's the youngest he never had babies around until now.

It's a wonderful thing to be an Uncle and to have babies that love you.

There will be many fun times in the coming years and someday Holly and JD will write letters to Uncle Johnny when he's on a mission. Family is the best!

JD you are such a wonderful little boy. You are so smart and kind.

You probably won't like these pictures of you in your sun hat - you are all boy. Your best quality is that you are so kind. You defer to Holly - if you have a toy and she grabs it you just move on to something else. You love to play on the keyboard and pushing buttons is your favorite thing. You figured out how to make the jack in the box open by pulling the little latch - so brilliant!

You've been taking a few steps for awhile and look so cute toddling around. You are always exploring, finding new things. You love cheese puffs and strawberries. I love it when you throw a ball to me. It's going to be fun watching you play ball when you get a little older.

You have such a tender heart. If you hear a baby cry you get upset and cry in sympathy. When you're upset your binky makes it all better.

My favorite thing is rocking with you on the front porch. Life with you is so much fun JD.

Sweet Holly you are such a character! You know where your "button" is and your nose and head and hair. You learn new things every day.

You make the cutest faces - one of my favorites is when you raise your eyebrows and smile. Cracks us up every time. You also wiggle your shoulders when we sing "all the single ladies" and you raise your hands when we sing "now put your hands up". We think you're brilliant!

You love JD and your mommy and daddy. You suck your thumb and pull our hair when you're tired - just like your daddy did when he was your age. You also love your pink blanket.

Life is so exciting for you. You love to swing and bounce and you'll take a few steps if we insist. You're such a fast crawler that walking is boring. Climbing the stairs is your newest accomplishment. When you reach for me I think my heart might just melt.

Life is so exciting with you in it - can't wait to see you grow!

I love blogs - I check my reader every day and am so happy when I see that a friend has made an entry. In my blog beginnings I was determined to write daily. It hasn't happened. Do I chalk this up as another failed attempt at a project?

I have learned something in my work with people trying to lose weight. As long as you keep trying and never give up you'll be happy with the result. In the short term we're all annoyed that we can't be perfect in achieving our goals, but if we keep working at what we really want, we find that our best is good enough. It will inevitably take us longer than we expected but the journey is where the fun is found.

So when I can, I will blog. When I look back I know I'll be happy that I stayed with it - even if it isn't every day or even every month. Whatever I can do will be valuable in a future day. My vow is to spend less time feeling guilty and more time doing my best.

p.s. there will always be pictures of grandbabies for your viewing pleasure!!

Time passes....Holly and JD are learning and growing.

They love to bounce and crawl and eat and almost walk.

Most of all they love their mom and dad. I know Liz won't love these pictures but I think she looks beautiful

Growing up so fast...

Having grandchildren is so much fun! It also makes the passage of time very clear. It seems that just yesterday Holly and JD were born but they're 11 months old. They have learned so much in these 11 months. It's remarkable to see how fast they change and learn. I think motherhood kept me so busy that I didn't see the amazing growth of a child.

Holly is already a princess - so petite and delicate but she holds her own with JD. She takes his pacifier and toys. He doesn't seem to mind.

This picture makes me smile - just looking out on the world and all the adventures ahead for these three.

There is absolutely nothing better than seeing our son as a daddy. Life is good!

My Friend Kathy

I think everyone we meet makes a difference in our lives. Kathy Sandoval moved into our ward about 10 years ago. When I saw her I thought she would provide a good chance for service. Little did I know that she would be the one who served me.

Kathy's story is tragic if you think life is only about our time on earth. She married her husband who was quadraplegic as a result of a spinal cord injury. They fell in love as she cared for him as a CNA in a nursing home. When their third child was 18 months old Kathy was diagnosed with MS. Her children were sent to Alaska to live with her brother when she could no longer care for them. She and John, her husband, were side by side in a nursing home until he passed away 20+ years ago.

By the time she moved into our ward she could only move her head. She used her tongue to operate the TV remote and turned her head to push a button to answer the phone or call for assistance. She was completely dependent on others for everything else. To say Kathy was happy with her situation would be a lie. She had moments of despair, always wondering if she had done something to deserve her difficult life. "After all", she would say, "isn't that the message of the Book of Mormon"? "If you're wicked the Lord punishes you and if you're righteous He blesses you." I never had a great comeback except to say that if her condition was punishment then there were many people more deserving of it than she was. Truly bad things happen to good people.

One of the things that caused her sadness was that she couldn't do anything to serve. Also those talks and lessons about adversity - she just hated being the worst case scenario - Nobody said it but we all felt we had no reason to whine about our problems with Kathy sitting in her wheelchair nearby.

Here are a few things I learned from Kathy:

1. Get up and go to church - she was at church week after week. When we had the 9:00 a.m. start time she was dressed and put in her wheelchair at 3 a.m. because that's when the aids had time to do it. She did this every three years, 52 times - she didn't enjoy it, but she did it.

2. She was a great visiting teacher - I had the opportunity to be her companion. Many of the lessons she gave brought such a strong spirit - we had some sacred experiences in the homes of our sisters. When I visited her in the hospital the day before she died she said, "I guess we won't get our visiting teaching done this month - if any of our sisters comes by I'll be sure to give them the lesson."

3. She taught me to love and appreciate my body. If Kathy had been able to move a finger it would have been the most wonderful blessing. I do not take my ability to move and do whatever I want for granted because I knew her.

4. Regardless of your situation the only real hope we have is in the Savior. He gave her the strength to endure.

I could go on and on, I want to be sure to have a record of this sweet friend and her impact on my life. Little did I know all those years ago when Kathy joined our ward family how she would truly become my sister. I can't wait to see her on the other side of the veil, we'll talk about earth life and how her adversity was not a punishment but a blessing to everyone who knew her.

I haven't blogged in forever! This is how my journal writing usually goes but I was thinking that I would love to have even one entry for every year of my life. So in the interest of trying again here are some adorable pictures of Holly and JD. They are so much fun now that their personalities are coming through. Holly waves Bye Bye, JD jabbers and they both like to chew on my necklaces. Being a grandma is a blast!

Our niece Megan brought a darling little chair for picture taking today.

My favorite thing that Holly and JD do now is put their hands on both sides of my face, so sweet.

A couple of months ago a friend invited me to join her and another friend at the See Jane Tri. It's a 4oo yard swim, 11 mile bike ride and 3 mile run. I've never wanted to do a triathlon because I'm not a good swimmer but I'm easily persuaded so I signed up and paid my money. I started training by swimming a couple of days a week. Yesterday I completed the tri!!! It was exhilerating to do something I didn't think I could. I was by no means toward the front of the pack (said pack was the over 50, under 18 and handicapped group). A few times I found myself swimming way off course but I loved it! This definately won't be my last triathlon - at least a yearly tradition for sure. The funnest part was being there with friends, excited at the start, encouraging along the way and overjoyed at the end. Plus Dave got up early on his day off and came with me, helped me and carried my stuff around - I was delighted to hear him cheering me on - What a wonderful husband!

The first day of school has always been exciting. It seems like yesterday I had 5 boys to get ready for that thrilling day.

Now it's just Johnny who needs new shoes, clothes etc. Hard to believe he's a Sophomore!

The neighbors start high school this year so it's carpool time!!

Sooner than I care to think about, Johnny will be driving himself to school and won't need me anymore...

Breakfast club

Emily had this great idea - the week before school to help the kids get used to waking up early, have a breakfast club. Here are a few members of the happy group.

This week we're getting together at 7:45 a.m. at a different families home to enjoy breakfast together.

The kids range from 15 years down to 18 months.

What a great chance to get together and enjoy the morning. Today was our turn.

I'm taking a photography class - it seems things get worse before they get better....

I'm working on exposure and color so this is a bit bright but an angel shot of Holly snoozing.

This summer we've planned some outings so these boys wouldn't be bored or spend their time playing video games. It was my turn so we went to Angel Island. We took the ferry from Tiburon.

They tried to drive me crazy by going to the edge of the island....I'm good at imagining boys falling off cliffs...

There was lots of walking - not sure this was the boys favorite outing but now they can say they've been to Angel Island.

They've grown up together...a little nutty but fun.

I recommend a trip to Angel Island if you like to walk and see beautiful views.

While we were in Idaho we had quick visits with family. This is Aunt Virginia (my dads sister) and Uncle Elvin. They are amazing! They served a mission in England and worked in the temple after raising a family. Uncle Elvin has some dimentia now - he can't leave the house much because he always wants to dance with any females he meets. Aunt Virginia cares for him and quilts like her mother before her. What a treat to see them again!

This is Aunt Delores, my mothers older sister. When she hugs me it's like my grandma and mom are here again...

This is Uncle Johnny, mom's younger brother - such a great man with a wonderful family.

It was a quick trip to Idaho, filled to the brim with family - perfect!

Going back to Idaho always takes me back to my childhood. Houses are filling up the fields - time marches on, but to me Idaho will always be about soft dirt between my toes and family.

He can't possibly part with any of them ...

so they sit in the field decomposing.

There are other contraptions there in the field...my brother assures me they are of great worth. If you like metal and rust you'd be happy as a clam on the farm.

Celebration of Thindependence

On July 11th we had the Celebration of Thindependence 5K Walk/Run. I invited all my Weight Watcher members to train in preparation to complete a 5K. Over 60 people participated - all completing the course. Here are some pictures. Next year we'll take a group shot.

The teachers and priest quorum took a little bike ride across CA.

From the Nevada border to the ocean at Bodega Bay. It was a week of worry for me and a week of growth for Johnny. His fabulous priesthood leaders took the time and energy to make it a wonderful (and safe-that's what they told me!) experience.

He rode his bike the entire time - never taking a ride in the sag wagon. I'm amazed at what my boys can do.

He's happy to join Matt and Steven with bragging rights for riding 250+ miles on a bicycle.

Success! Letting my baby boys go and grow into men may be the hardest part of mothering and it doesn't appear to be easier the 5th time around...but watching boys grow into men may be the best part of mothering.

What a beautiful day we had yesterday. It was a dream come to true to hear Jimmy bless his babies. Tears and sniffles all around.

Photography - the backyard

I think photography might be my next hobby. It's fun and easy. I'm visiting lots of blogs about photography. One thing I've learned is that pictures capture moments - they tell a story. So I'll take pictures that mean something to me and if someone else likes them that's fun, but if not I've captured a piece of my life as I enjoy the passage of time. Here's a challenge - take your camera to the backyard and find some stories.

We planted grape vines a few years ago. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of laying under my grandparents grape arbor on hot summer days.

I planted this apple tree thinking my grandkids would need a tree to climb.

My sweet friend Michelle planted these - they're called "hot lips". Now that she lives far away they're a reminder of the fun we had.

These blackberries burrowed under the fence from the neighbors yard. They took over the corner of the back yard. They're delicious but painful to prune after the last berry is plucked. But prune them we must or we'd have no yard - just a blackberry jungle.

Johnny is happy that summer is here. He's a sophomore now! Time is going too quickly....

Outside - It's overcast and breezy - strange for June 1st - also there are dead tomato plants on the patio table...sad but true...
From the Kitchen - brown rice is cooking for a quick warm up in the microwave for dinner - the rest will be frozen for another day.
From the Reading Room - I've been reading about camera lenses, just ordered a new one - it's all about the baby pictures.
I'm wondering - How easily Dave and I will agree on carpet...

I'm hoping - I can get the grandkid room cleaned out, painted etc. before the families come for the baby blessing. I work well with a deadline! Pictures to follow!

Both Holly and J.D. are so content. They cry to be fed or changed, otherwise they're happy.

Liz doesn't like this next picture but I think it's perfect - she's a wonderful mother - these babies are so lucky to have her as a mommy. Jimmy is a great daddy too - changing diapers and all. What a blessing to be able to watch my boy love his little ones.

I must say this is a most beautiful girl.

Here's the last installment of expecting week by week.

We're off to the hospital. They were scheduled to induce Liz tomorrow morning but her doctor called and said they're ready for her so it's Sunday evening and we're going in. Jim is a little nervous - He said, "I was ready for tomorrow, I'm not ready right now." Ready or not here they come.

To Plant

They say St. Patricks day is the time to plant a garden. That was a month ago. It's not that I don't want to plant a garden - well maybe it is. I don't enjoy the planting part but I think it's the watering that makes me crazy. Life gets busy and I forget and the plant droops and I feel terrible - like I'm killing a living thing... So I avoided buying seeds or plants thinking I would let it slide this year. There is a drought and all... Then last week Dave went to OSH and came home with these lovelies.

They've been sitting on the counter ever since. Waiting for someone to take pity on them and put them in the soil. Occasionally Dave waters them and I keep thinking I'll plant them, but so far - it hasn't happened.

One plant even has blossoms - the promise of big juicy fruit but still they sit. What did my grandma used to say? My get up and go - got up and went. I must find it, the desire to get my hands in dirt...

From the Kitchen - The after mothers day clean up will be my morning job. The guys just don't see cleaning the kitchen the way I do.

Happy Mothers day to Liz! She made it another week - full term last Tuesday at 36 weeks.

The doctor says she'll induce her next Monday the 18th. A few little contractions today. Liz is an amazing mother already - hanging in there - no complaining - beautiful and happy!

Jim says they're not going to the hospital until her water breaks....the truth - we're getting closer to meeting J.D. and Holly every day! Will there be another belly picture next week or is this the last expecting week by week??? Time will tell...

My Life

A friend of mine does this great "simple woman's daybook" entry each Monday. It's such a great idea - just a snapshot of real life. I was thinking how wonderful it would be to have a weekly note from my mother or grandmothers. Just a normal everyday account of how things are going. I've never been great at journals but the blogging thing is going well so I'm going to follow Bonnie's (http://bonsblogbydesign.blogspot.com/) (I knew how to do the hyperlink thing once but I forget...) lead and post weekly about "my life".

Outside - It's cloudy and chilly with a breeze is blowing the trees.

From the kitchen - I just realized that I left the rice cooker plugged in and on the "warm" setting all night. We were going to cook some rice for dinner yesterday but had enough frozen so we microwaved instead. This is why cleaning up the kitchen before bed is a really good idea.

I'm thinking - about the importance of thoughts. That's the topic for my WW meeting tonight. I learned some really interesting things at Daves business retreat Saturday and can't wait to share them.

From the reading room - I was reading in Psalms this morning - 139:1,2 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off."

I'm thankful for - A Father in Heaven who knows me.

I'm wondering - when the babies will arrive.

I'm wearing - my grey capri running pants and black sweatshirt and running shoes.

I'm hoping - I will be in the shower soon since it's 1:47...

I'm praying - That Liz will be able to withstand the stress of carrying and birthing babies...I know she will.

Around the house - It's quiet and there are many projects to do.

I have been procrastinating - Finishing quilting projects - they're on my mind...they've waited too long.

My favorite things - Snapdragons - there are yellow ones coming up in the front planter. They always remind me of my grandma Reece who made them talk to me when I was a little girl. I can't wait to show Holly and J.D. If you don't know how, just ask me and I'll show you. Every grandma should be able to make snapdragons talk.

A few plans for the week - HFPE on Wednesday - always fun to get together with sisterfriends. Waiting for babies. Hoping to inspire WW members. Paint the family room.

She's still hanging on... This Tuesday Liz will be full term for twins at 36 weeks!!

It's been a long road but Liz says it's gone fast for her.

Now we start wondering - will there be more belly pictures next week?

Happy May Day

When I was a little girl we made May Baskets, filled them with flowers and hung the little paper baskets on the doorknob of my grandmothers house. In elementary school I was chosen to dance around the may pole. It's kind of sad that we don't celebrate May day anymore but I'm thinking next year Holly and J.D. and I can make may baskets.

This video has nothing to do with that - it made me smile and I wanted to share it. I hope you have a happy May Day - Liz and I are going shopping for a rocking chair!

Liz got a cute haircut this week. Just a note to assure that life is not all about the babies.

Remember being so pregnant that you dissappear and it's all about the baby? - Liz is still there doing a great job of staying healthy! She announced today that she is officially waddling!

I got to feel JD having hiccups this week - what fun!

Still smiling and in the home stretch - 36 weeks is full term and the doctor says she'll induce if she hasn't delivered by 38 weeks. We can hardly believe it!

and grapes (if we can keep the racoons from eating them all)

And blackberries - which need to be thinned because they're choking out my favorite lilac bush...

Why didn't I plant fruit trees 16 years ago when we moved into the house? Can you imagine the bountiful harvest we would have? Oh well, better late than never!

Things are good with the babies - they're kicking up a storm.

The closets and drawers are full so we suspended the weekly gifts...I'm sure I'll find something they can't live without now and then.

Seriously the cutest pregnant girl - I glanced over at Liz this afternoon and thought, "What is that big thing under her shirt." Honestly I can hardly believe this dream is coming true for Jim and Liz.

Spring

Yesterday I weedwhacked the front yard - as you can see, there's still a lot of cleaning up to do but as I noticed the flowers in bloom my thoughts went to my dear friend Michelle. She is a master gardener and planted anything good that grows in our yard.

Through the years I'd look out the window and see her planting a little something here and there. She has a way of finding the perfect thing for a great value! When Jim and Liz were married she made sure there were flowers everywhere. She did this for all her friends, never wanting any glory or praise (so she won't like that I'm talking about her here).

Michelle moved to Canada and took a part of our hearts with her but when spring arrives it's as if she's here. I expect her to pop up with her gloves and garden tools. She's just one of those friends you keep in your heart and I miss her all the time but especially in the Spring.

So these pictures are for my sweet friend - thanks...

Now I need to put on my orange gloves and red gardening shoes (which Michelle gave me) and clear out the dead stuff to allow spring to continue to amaze us.

Things are getting snug in the baby growing department. Liz is officially on maternity leave!!

Now hopefully she'll relax and try to find a comfortable position - not easy...

Holly had the hiccups this week. Liz said last night it felt like a boxing match was going on.

They had a lovely baby shower at Aiges last week. Everyone loves Liz and is so happy about the babies. It was a fun party - now Liz and Jim are trying to find a place for everything.

After 56 years of being accident free Dave smashed his new mustang.

He was doing some work in downtown Oakland and a lady ran a red light right in front of him. The rest is history...

Hopefully they'll be able to return the car to it's former beauty. We're really happy that no one was hurt and that the red light runner has insurance.

The babies are kicking like crazy. We think Holly is trying to get her legs down from around her head. It brings back memories for me of babies moving around inside...what a wonderful time.

This is Liz's last week of work - she's ready to take it easy for a few weeks.

Ano Nuevo

We're determined to get out and see more sights in the beautiful Bay Area. Today we went back to the coast, past our childhood homes to see the elephant seals at AnoNuevo State beach.

We saw lots of elephant seals and "weaners" - Babies getting ready to go out on their own.

There was lots of walking

and beach exploring. The weather was absolutely glorious!

We learned that the best time to go is the end of January through the first part of February. That's mating season so there are lots of males fighting for position. The guided tours stop at the end of March but you can still visit the park and see seals molting - that's big fun... It's a great day trip, especially if the weather cooperates.

We stopped for lunch at Sam's Chowder Shack in El Granada, overlooking the beach just a couple of blocks down from where Dave grew up. It was a perfect day!

Here they are - the Hoptwins are growing strong.

We got to sit in on the 3D ultrasound yesterday - what a treat to see Holly and JD. They are so cute! Holly has chubby cheeks and Liz' delicate nose. JD has the Hopkins nose and was happy to pose for the camera.

The white peaking out is a white t-shirt. It's all about modesty for a pregnant girl! Liz is sacrificing much of her comfort for these babies and happily so - she's already the greatest mom.

These are the cutest little shoes with a headband. I keep finding the most adorable things...I think our budget is in trouble...

This little girl is popping out there!

She looks like her tiny self from the front - these nike shorts for JD look a little big but they were a deal - he'll need them someday!

We are having so much fun - the best part is watching Jim and Liz so sweet with each other.

Grandma Raab came to visit and set them up with cribs and a changing table - we wish they'd move here - we could have so much fun!

Elder Hopkins in Montana

I think Montana is Big Sky country - I didn't know it was also Big moon country. Steven said it's pretty warm but gets very icy at night. He's very proficient at sliding and hasn't fallen for quite some time.

Above we see Steven with his companion. He is driving a car in the snow. It makes me a little nervous but not nearly as nervous as having missionaries half way around the world. I'm so thankful Steven is in the U.S. They are having success with families taking the discussions. Very exciting times.

He loves the people in Montana. We're so thankful for his willingness to serve and for their willingness to take care of our boy.

Jody, Liz's mom flew in from the east coast for Tuesday's sonogram. What a treat to have her here - she's a delight and a great genealogist.

super bowl

This was the most exciting thing about the super bowl - for me anyway - I didn't really see any of the game...

Everyone enjoyed the 3D commercial but agreed it was a bit of a dissappointment. Supposedly Chuck is in 3D tonight, we love the Nerd Herd!

Dave needs a new lounge chair - this one has a decided lean....I'll just put it on the "to do" list!

They're more than halfway there! Actually for twins 36 week is full term.

I felt the babies kick yesterday - Liz and I were heading to Joann's fabric to get a pattern for crib bumpers and Liz said they were kicking and I felt a little bump. It's so cool, even though it's been 14 years since I carried a baby it brought back the thrill of knowing there's a life (or two) - growing strong and healthy - what a miracle.

I hope the stars won't keep JD awake!

We got this cute little top yesterday - I love the band around the bottom. Hopefully it will fit for a few weeks.

A little "pooh" sleeper for JD. It's soft and cuddly - we can just imagine a little baby in there!

The babies were kicking Jimmy during Sacrament meeting today - I guess they're practicing - the Hopkins boys always enjoyed raising a fuss in the pews.

Movies

Dave and the boys love to watch movies - over and over again. Currently they're in a star wars marathon mood. I watch a movie and that's it - I don't care to watch it again. I have only so much time and I don't want to use it watching something I've already seen. I know it's weird - you say, "if you enjoy it you should see it again".

If I try to watch a movie again I catch myself thinking - I know what happens next and how it ends - why am I sitting here??
Now please excuse me because I have to go clear the cobwebs behind the TV - (how do I not see these things??)

Guns

As you know we have 5 sons. I have always refused to let them have guns. I'm not sure why I'm so against toy guns but the fight factor was just too high with boys shooting each other and crying etc. For years it worked out really well until Johnny. He's the last boy and face it - we're tired.... It started with nerf guns - now there are lots of them. I have to endure the older boys chiding that they never got to have guns.... Johnny has been begging for an airsoft gun. I said, "No, no and no". Dave bought him one....

This is the gun and airsoft pellets...I'm not happy but Dave....

The picture speaks for itself. I think I've been overruled in the gun department.

Larry's wedding

Not the best picture of my little brother and his lovely bride but it's the best I have.

The wedding was at the beautiful Ralston mansion in Belmont and everything was perfect. The tables were amazing.

Larry loves hot wheels so you'll notice the favors included one for each guest. It was a magical night. We love Larry and Alison.

Jacob comes to visit

We had a great time with our old friend Jacob - we haven't seen him in over 2 years. Like all good friends it feels like no time has passed.

We laughed and chatted over lunch. He's happy to be in shorts and though it's foggy and a little cold to us, after 2+ years in the frozen north he is toasty warm.

Having Jacob here made me miss his family even more than usual....thank goodness for blogging, it seems to make the miles dissappear.
